More from the interview I heard. When we turn on a stress response, and we can't turn it off, now we are headed for disease. So we have to beginto thinkabout different ways or strategies to begin to change the brain and mind ahead of the environment. Now,because we havecomplex stressesin our lives; traffic jams, internet connections, second mortages, single parenting,,those stresses are the ones that do not produce an immediate result, like being eaten. They tend to be more enduring and they tend to be longer lasting and because we tend to mull over problems in our mind, the actual repetition of reviewing the problem is actualy what creates the disease. What happens is, every time we have a thought about something, that produces a chemical. That chemical then begins to signal our body so that we can begin to feel exactly the way we were just thinking. So if you have a great thought or a happy thought, in a matter of seconds, you begin to feel great or happy.By the same means,if you have an unhappy thought or a negative thought, or a self depreciating thought, in a matter of seconds you begin to feel negative,or unhappy, or unworthy. So this thing called a thought produces a chemicalsignal, that triggars the body, so we begin to feel the way we were just thinking. Once we begin to feel the way we we were thinking, we begin to think the way we were feeling, which than makes more chemicals for us to feel the way we think and think the way we feel, and this cycle of thinking and feeling and feeling and thinking creates a memorized state of being so the person says"I am unhappy,or "I am unworthy, or" I am joyful but that redundancy of the same chemical signal over and over again,is what prompts us to not be able to think greater than how we feel. To be continued:

I recently heard an interview with Dr joe Dispenza,DC and Dr Alberto Villoldo. The question asked was how do we change when we have belief structures that are so deeply programmed in our limbic, mammalian brain when we arefighting for survival everyday. The limbic patterns that exist are drven by survival, and survival is responding to the environment. When we react to the external world,we pretty much activate a primitive nervous system, and that primitive nervous system, that fight or fight nervous system, the chemicals that are created from that system force, drive us to act like anamped up animal with a big memory bank. When we are in survival,we haveonly three things that are important to us; we are concerned about our bodies, all of our awareness is on the external world, and we are fixated on time. The problem is, with us, that we respond to environmental stressors in our life that tend to be more complex,we turn on the same chemicals of survival but social morays say that we can't fight because fighting isn't socially acceptable, and we can't run because there is nowhere to run, sothose chemicals begin to live in our body and begin to break down everything from the immune system to the gastrointestinal system to the heart and to the brain. Now, the amazing thing is that because of our big memory bank,we can turn on the stress response,we can turn on that survival response just by thought alone. We can anticipate an event, we can expect an event to happen,we can get prepared for an event, and because we can make thought more real than anything else, we turn on the same chemicals just by anticipation or expectation of the event, and the long term effects of that begin to drive the body to its lowest denominator and begin to push the genetic buttons that cause disease. In order to change we have to move from that state of survival to a state of creation,to move into the present moment and begin to think greater than how we feel and think greater than the environment and think greater than time, and that takes practice.

Good Day all. It's another gorgeous day in the central coast of California. I just returned from an hour run along the water. On this run I had several thoughts that I would like to share. With all the talk recently about branding, I am ready to create a new brand for myself. I have been a Chiropractor now for almost 25 years. The funny thing is for the last ten years I have not been practicing what most people would consider traditional chiropractic. As most of you who know me or read my previous posts, I am more of bodymind specialist. The frustration has been when asked "what do you do", I mention holistic Chiropractic, usually there is a preconceived thought, usually inaccurate of what I do. More along the lines of bone crunching. With that, I am ready to re-create a new brand for myself. For those of you who experienced a brief snippette of the work I am open for suggestions. Thanks

Being a holistic chiropractor for the last 25 years, having the opportunity to work with people with all sorts of conditions. I have wondered what is the cause or primary source of peoples conditions. Or what brings them into my office. I have always believed it was stress and the individuals lifestyle. How they think, what there eating, and how are they moving. After listening to Kevin Hogan's dvd on influence,he talked about connecting with people on the level of there pain, and fear. Stating that as humans we all experience or have pain in our lives. Whether physical or emotional. And we all have some sort of fear. As a result of having pain,we will develop tension which creates stress. An example of this took place in my office on Monday. A 30 year old women presented to my office with chronic left leg sciatica. She explained to me that this had been going on for several years. She was considering surgery. It turned out that when she was a teenager her father was killed. She somatocized the pain. Once she became aware, her leg pain dissapeared. This was an excellent example of some of our physcal pain is the result of emotional pain that we carry beneath our awareness.I introduce this concept in my book Balancing your emotional health.I also highly reccommend Kevin Hogan'sScience of Influence volume61-72.
Here is a really cool book I did a review on. The part that I really love is the chapter on Stress and his belief that exercise is a requirement for a Brain / Body connection! Enjoy!
Brain Rules by John Medina
What do we know for sure about the brain? Well, though scientists and researchers uncover new information and present new theories at a remarkable rate, according to developmental molecular biologist John Medina, there are twelve simple rules about the brain we know to be fact.
My favorites are Rule #1: Exercise boosts brain power; Rule #7: Sleep well, think well; and Rule #8: Stressed brains don’t learn the same way. In addition, Medina offers the clearest reader-friendly explanation I’ve come across of the stress response and how stress damages our blood vessels, leading to heart attacks and strokes.
Interesting anecdotes from his personal life and clinical experience engage the reader and surround the cutting edge information presented in this inviting and page-turning “good read.”
The book comes with an accompanying DVD that encapsulates the chapters in sound and moving pictures (see Rule #10: Vision trumps all other senses).
I recommend Brain Rules for the lay person and the health professional, to gain understanding about this most complex body organ.

Why would I want to use a holistic chiropractor?
A holistic chiropractor has a more comprehensive approach to your care. A traditional chiropractor treats only the structural component. As a holistic chiropractor, I also address emotions that may be creating disease or dysfunction and nutritional imbalances that disrupt the body’s chemistry.
What do emotions and body chemistry have to do with wellness?
Your body operates on a model called the Triad of Health. There are three components that make up the Triad-- Structural, Chemical and Emotional. Combined, they present an overall state of a person’s health.
Structure is the foundation of the human body and the Triad. It includes the bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, cartilage and nerves. Shifts in structural alignment result from accidents, physical inactivity, or incorrect patterns of movement that have developed over time.
The Chemical make-up and balance of the body includes diet and vitamins and mineral intake, as well as the function of organs and organ systems. The chemical aspect is disrupted by the ingestion of nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and sugar substitutes like aspartame, as well as toxins in the air we breathe.
Emotion is the third leg of the triangle. Not only does physical well-being impact emotions, but emotions can greatly impact the body, both positively and negatively. The emotional element of the triangle includes the feelings of fear, anger, guilt, depression and anxiety.
How would you treat my symptoms?
As a holistic chiropractor, I am more wellness-oriented than symptom-oriented. I believe in the mind/body connection. I examine your body’s structure, address possible emotional causes of your symptoms, and evaluate your body’s chemistry as it relates to diet and environmental elements. We will discuss the importance of movement as a tool toward greater health and wellness.
How does the Triad of Health relate to the mind/body connection?
The sides of the equilateral triangle all affect and interrelate with one other. For example, being in a constant state of the emotion of fear may cause a muscle spasm or contraction in the back. The muscle spasm creates pain which affects more than just the back. The pain influences the food choices made, leaning more toward “comfort” foods, rather than healthy foods. Food choices affect the body’s chemistry in terms of nutritional deficiencies.
Every cell in your body is both structurally and functionally related to every other cell in your body. All your thoughts, beliefs, fears, and dreams are connected within the structure and function of your physical body. By discovering and integrating these relationships, you allow yourself to bring greater harmony into your body and mind, diminishing internal conflicts and increasing your overall health and well-being!
What is health?
Dorland’s Medical Dictionary defines health as a “state of optimal physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.”
Our bodies are wired for health and vitality, not for illness and disease. Health is how our bodies function, not how they feel. Health comes from the inside out. And, importantly, the choices we make play a part in our health and well-being.
How long have you been a holistic chiropractor?
I have been a chiropractor for 23 years, and of those, 18 have been in service as a holistic chiropractor. Early on, I recognized the mind-body connection as an element that basic spinal manipulation was not addressing. I wanted to find the cause of a problem, not just treat the symptoms. If the spine is adapting to a stressor, that’s not the cause of the problem, simply the effect. A holistic chiropractor recognizes that our symptoms are our body adapting to an environmental stressor. I coach patients daily in making lifestyle changes. I am an expert on stress and its effect on the mind/body system, on releasing energetic emotional blocks, and on diet and weight loss and what nutrition is needed.
Goodmorning from Las Vegas. In the last two days there has been an incredible amount of data given to us,In fact,if this seminar were over yesterday I would be fine and complete with the information given to us. Kevin usually saves the best for the last day. Why the title stress and seminars. The stress for many is once we get back to our offices and work place, what do we implement first, second and third. In the past, having been to workshops and than back homeI have experienced info overload and did not apply any of the new info for awhile. This time I will focus on three things. That will reduce the strss significantly. Have a great day!! www.rothwellnesscenter.com
